Grab your rubber gloves and a bottle of chardonnay — Samantha Hill’s hilarious new comedy "She Works Hard For (No) Money" serves up a series of riotous, razor-sharp vignettes that skewer the cult of the domestic goddess and the absurdity of unpaid labour.
Through sketches, storytelling, and a healthy dose of dark humour, "She Works Hard For (No) Money" delivers a painfully relatable commentary on the invisible workload women still carry at home AND in the workplace… and the cultural systems that keep it all in place.
Expect laughs. Expect rage. Expect to feel seen.
This whip-smart, laugh-out-loud show explores the untold story of invisible labour: from the tyranny of working your 9-5 while also project managing your own household, to the mysterious phenomenon of male weaponised incompetence (the art of pretending not to know, so you don’t have to do the job). It’s a theatrical deep-clean of the mental load carried by women everywhere. Expect laughs, tears, and maybe a few cleaning tips… but don’t expect anyone else to book the babysitter.
“It’s for anyone who’s ever cooked dinner, bathed the kids, coordinated a week’s worth of appointments, play dates and after-school activities… all while your significant other ‘rested their eyes’ on the couch,” says Hill.
As part of the Anywhere Festival, the world of invisible, unpaid labour in "She Works Hard For (No) Money" is being transported into the real office space of ‘The Precinct’, Fortitude Valley. The Precinct is a hub for innovators, and is an initiative of Advance Queensland, supported by the Queensland Government.
