Australia’s esteemed actor and writer, Kate Fitzpatrick, renowned for her versatile performances, is set to grace the stage in the highly-anticipated play, “Gaslight,” touring across Australia from February 2024.

20Hailing from Perth and raised in Adelaide, Fitzpatrick has left an indelible mark on the Australian arts scene, appearing in plays for major theatre companies, TV productions, and films. Her extensive credits include works with Queensland Theatre, Melbourne Theatre Company, and The Nimrod/Stables/Belvoir, showcasing her remarkable talent and versatility.

Fitzpatrick will be joined by actor and writer Courtney Cavallaro, a WAAPA graduate and nominee for the WA Performing Arts Awards, who made her Queensland Theatre debut in 2023.

Directed by Queensland Theatre’s Artistic Director Lee Lewis, “Gaslight” is a modern adaptation of Patrick Hamilton’s 1940s suspenseful thriller. The play explores themes of suspense, danger, and moral injustice, creating a thrilling experience for the audience. The adaptation, by Canadian writers and performers Patty Jamieson and Johnna Wright, premiered at the Shaw Festival in Canada in 2022.

Producer Rodney Rigby expressed excitement about the production, stating, “I couldn’t be more excited to be producing Gaslight across the country.” The play will open Queensland Theatre’s 2024 season, followed by performances in Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Newcastle, Parramatta, and Sydney.

Set in 1901 London, “Gaslight” follows the story of Bella Manningham, a seemingly content young wife whose idyllic life starts unraveling as strange occurrences within her household raise questions about her sanity. The term “gaslighting,” derived from the play, reflects the psychological manipulation faced by Bella.

The original playwright, Patrick Hamilton, faced challenging circumstances in his life, which influenced his work. Despite personal struggles, “Gaslight” became a massive success, adapted into films and remaining one of the longest-running non-musicals in Broadway history.

Starring alongside Fitzpatrick are Geraldine Hakewill and Toby Schmitz, ensuring a stellar cast for what promises to be one of the most captivating performances of 2024.

Tickets for “Gaslight” are currently on sale for the Melbourne and Brisbane seasons, with further information available at www.gaslightplay.com.au.
