About

Theatre Haus is the digital home of theatre reviews and recognition in Brisbane and beyond.

Originally launched in February 2019 by a group of local creatives, Theatre Haus was formed to fill a void in digital theatre publications. We recognised a niche opportunity for collaboration and information sharing across the sectors – community, independent and professional – from and for the greater South Queensland region. Over the years our mission has evolved, and now the remaining founders – Elodie and Trent – aim to leave a creative legacy for generations to come.

Theatre may be defined as a simple genre to some, but we believe theatre takes many forms of place, space, and experience; and we hope to continue expanding as the artform does too. Haus stems from both the germanic ancestry of the founders and the inclusion of “aus” to reflect our home in Australia. In the present, we use HAUS as an acronym to represent our values:

Home

We are, first and foremost, created by and for Queenslanders.

Audience

If there’s an audience, we’re there; stage, screen or stream.

Unity

All sectors of the industry are valuable to us; professional, independent and community.

Story

We amplify diverse voices, old and new, quiet and loud, big and small.

Our contributors, aka ‘Haus Sitters’, operate under a barter system, writing detailed reviews in exchange for complimentary tickets to events. Theatre Haus has team members in several Queensland cities including Brisbane, Redcliffe, Caboolture, Ipswich, Logan, Toowoomba, Gold Coast, and Sunshine Coast, and has recently expanded into Melbourne. We occasionally cover events in Sydney, namely for tours. Theatre Haus’ most popular annual event, running since our year of launch, is Wall of Faves, with which we recognise, showcase and celebrate our industry.

Our founders, aka ‘Haus Builders’, are affiliated with governing bodies within the performing arts and media industries, and pride ourselves on producing content that reflects creativity and honesty. We believe in the support, positivity and encouragement of the arts within our region:
