Jagged Little Pill

‘Jagged Little Pill’ to end season in August

Producers of the  Grammy and Tony Award-winning musical ‘Jagged Little Pill’, have today announced the production will play its final performance in Sydney on Sunday, 14 August.

Inspired by the seminal rock album of the same name by seven-time Grammy Award winner, Alanis Morissette, ‘Jagged Little Pill’ only recently returned to the Theatre Royal Sydney in July 2022. Its premiere season in December 2021 was a sold-out success.

A statement from producers of the Australian production, Vivek J. Tiwary, Arvind Ethan David, Eva Price, Howard Panter for Trafalgar Theatre Productions, Torben Brookman for GWB Entertainment and Eilene Davidson Productions, read:

“Jagged Little Pill is the story of resilience and growth through trauma — it is a show about healing, human connection, and catharsis. That message has been particularly resonant in Australia over this past difficult year.

Despite glowing reviews, rapturous audiences and the tenacity, talent and commitment of our company, due to the combination of the new covid wave and uncertain operating conditions, we have made the difficult decision to close the Sydney run on 14 August and suspend the planned tour.

We will continue to tell the ‘Jagged Little Pill’ story – with the North American tour commencing in August, and productions planned in the UK and Asia — and remain committed to finding a way to bring this vibrant and vitalizing musical back to the Australian stage.

We want to thank our company for their courage, talent and brilliance, and the audiences who have experienced Jagged over the past six months.”

‘Jagged Little Pill’ will close 14 August.

‘Jagged Little Pill’ tells the story of the Healys – a perfectly imperfect family. To the outside world, they represent the suburban ideal: a PTA mother who never stops supporting her children, a busy lawyer father who works hard to provide for his family, a high achiever son who recently graduated as valedictorian, and the creative adopted daughter fighting for change in a small Connecticut town. But nothing is what it seems to be.

The musical stars stage and screen icon Natalie Bassingthwaighte (‘Chicago’), Tim Draxl (‘A Place to Call Home’), and Maggie McKenna (‘Muriel’s Wedding’). It also features Morisette’s beloved hits ‘You Oughta Know’, ‘Head Over Feet’, ‘Hand In My Pocket’, and ‘Ironic’.

All ticket holders for performances after 14 August will be contacted by their point of purchase.
