‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’ is a hilarious, interactive whodunit mystery musical that allows the audience to enter the action and become the ultimate detectives.

Based on Charles Dickens’s unfinished novel of the same name, the story is set in a small town of Cloisterham, England, where the young and charming Edwin Drood has been mysteriously murdered. But by whom? His leering romantic rival, John Jasper? The infamous purveyor of opium and vice, Princess Puffer? The mysterious Landless twins, newly arrived from Ceylon? Or someone else even more dastardly and villainous? Dickens passed away before he was able to reveal the culprit.

Rupert Holmes’ award-winning musical solves this predicament by asking the audience to choose which character is the killer by putting it to a vote. Staged in a metatheatrical manner by the Music Hall Royale, a travelling Victorian theatre troupe full of just as many colourful characters as the roles they play, this charming and inventive musical is sure to intrigue and entertain any musical or mystery lover.

Lovers on the highway, chased down by their past.

Cole and Sky, a young couple, are driving in a classic Aussie car from the coast into the guts of the country. Cole’s father is ill and Sky is due a holiday after climbing the corporate ladder.

They set out with unbridled enthusiasm for the road ahead; swept up in romantic dreaming and poetic ruminations amid the boundless plains. They knit new narratives for themselves; give themselves new names and identities in sync with their seemingly unanimous versions of utopia. Their newfound freedom is underscored by a long-forgotten mix tape buried deep in the glovebox, but out of the static following the final song comes a blast from the past.

Equal parts ‘Mad Max’, ‘Evil Angels’ and ‘ Wolf Creek’, ‘Horizon’ keeps who we are in the rear-view mirror, whilst asking what it is we can see in the heat-distorted bitumen ahead?

Combining Big Fork Theatre’s beloved comedy style and the exciting and surreal theatre of the mind, In the Dark transports the audience through their imagination using voice, sound effects and soundscapes created on the fly by some of Brisbane’s most talented improvisers. Combined with the ambience of the Spring Hill Reservoir, this show is unlike any other you will hear!

Please note, this show takes place with the audience and cast completely in the dark. As such, it may not be suitable for all people. The show is down a flight of stairs. The performance itself is purely audio so is accessible to blind and visually impaired people.

Vena Cava Productions is bringing their first Mainhouse production to the Queensland Multicultural Centre. ‘Good Grief’ by Merlynn Tong collects myths from across time and space and weaves them together with the common threads of grief and love. The scenes bounce between reimagined tales inspired by everything from Ancient China to the moon landing. One minute we’re dodging swooping magpies, the next we’re with two sisters at a ghost wedding. This play is a library of moments that celebrates facing the impossible with hope.

Ancient myths and legends from around the globe are reimagined into modern-day moments in this series of intriguing vignettes. ‘Good Grief’ peers into the windows of disparate lives in flux and transformation. We are left wondering if we, as human beings, are ultimately connected; if we all share the same fundamental need to love, and experience the same landscapes of lost and longing, hope and hunger for life.

‘Good Grief’ was first produced by QLD Theatre in 2018 and published by Playlab.
