MTI Opens The Doors For Mamma Mia

‘Mamma Mia’, the distractingly heartwarming, feel-good musical of our generation first opened in London’s glittering West End in 1999 before transferring to Broadway a year later. Since then it has had revivals, tours, international productions, and of course, not one, but two, movie incarnations featuring the fabulous Meryl Streep.

The musical features the music of ABBA and tells the story of a young woman’s search for her father before her wedding day. Where she goes looking for one, she finds three potential father figures, all drawn back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.  A delightful love story unfolds, full of friendship, laughter, and song. Featuring some of ABBA’s most iconic music, and with a heartfelt book, ‘Mamma Mia’ has been seen by more than 60 million people worldwide.

Musical Theatre International (MTI) has announced that for a limited time non-professional companies throughout Australia and New Zealand can apply to license this blockbuster musical. With a large, diverse cast, iconic music, great dance numbers, and such a well known name, this news will have some community theatre companies salivating to be among the first to bring ‘Mamma Mia’ to life.
