A new innovative audio experience is coming to audiences at home
Realscape Productions and DARKFIELD have announced their first at-home broadcast, Darkfield Radio.
In a new digital project that amplifies DARKFIELD’s signature audio experience, participants will partake in an intense and communal at-home encounter.
Their first show, entitled ‘DOUBLE’, will see audiences listen and tune in to a simultaneous broadcast for just over 20-minutes. Instructed to sit opposite each other, at either side of a table, the experience will be replicated across hundreds of rooms all over Australia. All that participants require is a mobile device, headphones and a friend. Everything else is from the comfort of their home.
As with all DARKFIELD experiences, a strange world is built from a 360-degree binaural sound that perplexes one’s senses and deepens their immersion by casting doubt on what is real and what is imagined.
‘DOUBLE’ explores the Capgras delusion and is classified as a troubling exercise in familiarity. In this condition, the sufferer is convinced that a loved one has been replaced by an exact replica with malign intentions. The show centres around neuroscientist Anil Seth’s sentiments that “reality is just a hallucination that we can all agree on”.
DARKFIELD Radio comes as the next innovative presentation by DARKFIELD and Realscape Productions. This new show by UK creators David Rosenberg and Glen Neath was the next logical step in a world rocked by COVID-19. Especially when the virus continues to cause event closures, impacting Arts industries across the globe. Their experiences are brought to life in Australian by Melbourne-based producers, Realscape Productions.
Previous shipping container experiences – ‘Seance’, ‘Flight’ and ‘Coma’ – have received tremendous reviews, yet remain on hiatus until later in 2020. Realscape Productions hopes to announce new dates for these productions soon, as the team reintroduces the experiences with social distancing and special measures in place.
For DARKFIELD Radio, this new project provides an easily accessible, at-home experience. ‘DOUBLE’ is available until Saturday, 1 August 2020 and for a strictly limited time. Over-ear headphones are recommended for the best experience during the show.
Tickets are on sale via the Darkfield Australia – Radio website. The event runs from Friday, 17 July to Saturday, 1 August 2020. Early bird specials are available for the first week of performances.
