Queensland Theatre hits the road on regional tour with ‘The Scene Project’

Queensland Theatre are touring to schools throughout regional Queensland with ‘The Scene Project’.

Over the past two month, 86 schools across Queensland have participated int the 9-week digital unit with Queensland Theatre. That’s over 1000 students from schools in Brisbane, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Stanthorpe, Warwick, Ayr, Bundaberg, Charters Towers, Gladstone, Gympie, Mackay, Rockhampton, Mt Isa, Townsville, Whitsundays and Innisfail.

The new program aims to encourage and educate drama students in all aspects of the creative process, from rehearsal to presentation. Each year a playwright pens a new work and the participating groups are tasked with the challenge of creating their own 15-minute version. The program concludes with local schools coming together in a professional theatre venue to share their performance.

This year, the program has featured David Burton’s work, ‘Wisdom’, a dark comedy about youth and revolution. This piece centres on political voices and challenges whether teenagers can really make a difference, when the world is set against them.

Also included in the program are weekly topics, a recorded rehearsed live read with actors from Queensland Theatre’s Young Artist Ensemble alumni, video workshops, learning activities and sample assessment tasks.  The video workshops have utilised some of Australia’s best actors, directors, writers and teaching artists including David Burton, Merlynn Tong, Steve Pirie, Zachary Boulton, Ellen Bailey, Jackson McGovern, Travis Dowling, Brady Watkins and Ben Hughes.
