Gold Coast’s ‘Mamma Mia!’ sets new dates
Here we go again!
After the forced postponement of the highly-anticipated Gold Coast production of ‘Mamma Mia!’, Matt Ward Entertainment has today announced new dates for the musical.
Performing at The Star Gold Coast, the ABBA-inspired hit will return to the main stage form 19 June to 11 July 2021.
The exciting rescheduling is set to thrill audiences (and fans) everywhere. Producer, Matt Ward, was ecstatic to share the news, which will see the production go forward mid-2021.
“It’s official, we are back, and I’m so happy to announce that the show WILL go on,” Ward said.
“The Arts and so many productions were hit hard due to COVID and it was stop and start on the production for some time with all of the uncertainty. But there’s no better feeling then having the green light to get back to doing what we love and being able to support local talent with our production.”
‘Mamma Mia!’ is the ultimate feel-good, jukebox musical comprising of all ABBA’s top hits, including “Voulez Vous”, “S.O.S”, “Dancing Queen” and many more. Having delighted over 60-million people around the globe, the story centres around Sophie, a young bride-to-be, who sets out to discover the identity of her father. Ward spoke about the popularity of the show, and even live performance on the Gold Coast.
“There is a massive appetite for live performance and entertainment off the back of lockdowns and restrictions, so dancing queens of the Gold Coast can get excited for what’s to come,” Ward said.
“Our incredible production team have focused all of their efforts over the last year into putting together an even bigger and better version of the loved musical.”
The announcement of the show’s new season also comes with the confirmation that cast auditions will commence at the beginning of February. A total of 20-performers will make up the ‘Mamma Mia!’ cast, with one budding musical theatre star set to ‘take a chance’ land the lead role of ‘Sophie Sheridan’ with an official star search with radio partner, 1029 Hot Tomato. Due to imposed restrictions, video submissions will be accepted for the first casting calls, with live auditions to follow.
“We are on the hunt for Queensland-based performers to join our incredible cast,” said Ward.
“There is so much talent across the state and now more than ever is the time to showcase this to audiences.”
