Titanic: The Movie, The Play (Act React)

Act React’s ‘Titanic: The Movie, The Play’ to set sail again

It’s time to be the king (or queen) of the world as ‘Titanic: The Movie, The Play’ sets sail in August this year.

With performance restrictions easing, Brisbane audiences are being invited to never let go all over again with Act React’s infamous movie parody, ‘Titanic: The Movie, The Play’.

The loving homage to the most epic movie romance of the 1990s will be staged at the Brisbane Powerhouse from 19 August to 12 September 2021.

Act React Producer Natalie Bochenski said the company was thrilled to abord the ship again, with favourites Jack, Rose, Billy Zane… and even the iceberg.

“This is one of our most popular big shows, with both fans and haters of the 1997 film enjoying its deliberately low-budget special effects and cheeky humour,” Bochenski said.

“We want to give audiences a stupendously fun and charming night out, and what better way than to do that than have a romp onboard the world’s most famous and doomed ocean liner?”

Titanic: The Movie, The Play (Act React)
Act Reacts ‘Titanic: The Movie, The Play’ sails into Brisbane Powerhouse this August.

Titanic takes all the memorable moments from James Cameron’s three-hour long opus and condenses it into a 70 minute spectacular, complete with replica Titanic prow and lifeboats. It’s a fun, tongue-in-cheek night out, with immersive play and hilarious comedy. Bochenski commented that a highlight of the show has always been the audience interactivity with their passengers loving “the high-octane energy mixed with the low fi stunts”.

Actor Daren King, who takes on the role of heartthrob Jack Dawson, said he was excited to sink back into the role and set sail on the ship of dreams.

“The most fun aspect of this show is welcoming the audience to come and play with us,” King said.

“I’m keen to get back among the Roses again, and getting thrown when audience members inevitably know the movie better than I do.”

In ‘Titanic: The Movie, The Play’ audiences become passengers on board the ship, grabbing their seats in a fateful voyage. Bochenski said the show is a favourite due to Titanic’s enduring pop culture relevancy.

“The fact that you can flip open your social media and still see Titanic-inspired memes in your feed shows the enduring love people have for this film.”

‘Titanic: The Movie, The Play’ plays at Brisbane Powerhouse from Thursday, 19 August 2021. Concession tickets start at $35.00 with adults at $39.00.
