Amanda Muggleton to lead engrossing new work

Premiering this November at Melbourne’s renowned Theatre Works, much-lauded Australian actor Amanda Muggleton takes to the stage in an engrossing new work where the lines between art and life are most definitely blurred.

Written by emerging writer Joshua White, meet Amanda Redfern. The Mentor. A one-time Hollywood Star who finds her life spiralling in her later years. Through the haze she finds new purpose when she begins tutoring twenty-something actor Jordan, but as the academic lessons progress, life lessons also take the fore with the two unearthing vastly different perceptions on sexism, ageism, and respect. Discovering that their methodologies as actors are fuelled by incredibly different lived experiences.

A dynamic and captivating two-hander starring Amanda Muggleton (Maria Callas, Masterclass) and Connor Morel (The Wedding Singer, Rent), The Mentor firmly places 70-year-old Amanda Redfern in the driver’s seat… and pairs her with a character that embodies everything she isn’t. Driven by a mature female voice juxtaposed against an idealistic male perspective, The Mentor is an engaging and powerful new work that explores the complex ebbs and flows of the human experience.

“I first came across The Mentor during a development initiative that I co-founded through the first lockdown of 2020; Hope New Works”, explains Bravo Arts’ Artistic Director Christian Cavallo.

“I immediately loved the idea of presenting a story of two actors with completely different lived experiences, approaching the craft in an unconventional way. We have also Australian Icon Amanda Muggleton playing Amanda Redfern and she is an absolute powerhouse. Inhabiting a role that hits close to home, we’ve found that some of the conversations her character holds sit parallel to experiences Amanda has encountered over her 40+ year career. It makes for great theatre.”
