Brisbane Festival and QPAC to Debut “BANANALAND” – A Quirky Australian Musical Comedy

Brisbane Festival and Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) are set to present the world premiere of “BANANALAND,” a delightful musical comedy crafted by renowned Australian composers Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall. With an impressive cast and creative team, the show promises an uproarious and heartwarming experience. Audiences can catch the show at QPAC’s Playhouse as part of Brisbane Festival from September 16 to October 1, 2023.

“BANANALAND” revolves around Ruby Semblance, a 21-year-old idealist, and her quirky protest band, Kitty Litter. Despite performing together for four years, the band has only managed to garner one devoted fan. Unexpectedly, Kitty Litter finds themselves facing a sold-out audience of young children one day. Their protest song “Bananaland” has accidentally become a hit on the kids’ music charts.

The musical features a knockout score by Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall, known for their work on “Muriel’s Wedding The Musical.” The production is directed by Simon Phillips, renowned for his work on musicals like “Priscilla Queen of the Desert.”

Starring a brilliant cast, “BANANALAND” includes Max McKenna as Ruby Semblance, Georgina Hopson as Karen Semblance, Joe Kalou as Seb Kale, and more. Their powerhouse performances are sure to captivate audiences.
