With bookings now open, theatre enthusiasts can secure their seats for this captivating show, which will grace the stage of the Kingaroy Town Hall from May 17th to May 26th, featuring four evening performances and two matinees.
While this rendition of “Chess” is presented in semi-concert style, with minimal sets and props, audiences can anticipate a visually stunning experience thanks to choreographed movement and audiovisual projections carefully curated by Director Julee-anne Bell. However, it’s the musical prowess that takes center stage, with the iconic music by the ABBA boys and lyrics penned by the legendary Tim Rice.
Julee-anne Bell expressed her excitement about the production, emphasizing the powerful lead vocals and the goosebump-inducing talent of the chorus. She urged theatergoers not to miss out on this extraordinary performance, promising that “Chess” delivers the quintessential Broadway experience of exceptional music, inspired singing, and an unwavering commitment to entertain.
For those unfamiliar with the storyline, “Chess” weaves a tale of love, power, and strategy against the backdrop of the Cold War. With a gripping love triangle and the clash of two chess Grandmasters, the musical boasts unforgettable songs such as “One Night in Bangkok” and “I Know Him So Well.”
The cast of twenty-six includes Nick Backstrom as Frederick Trumper, Julee-anne Bell as Florence Vassy, and Thomas Bell as Anatoly Sergievsky. Behind the scenes, Julee-anne Bell serves as both Director and Thomas Bell as Assistant Director, with Jessica Welch lending her expertise as Choreographer.
