This is the moment for an Australian premiere of ‘Jekyll & Hyde’!

Australia’s most popular theatre performers, Anthony Warlow and Jemma Rix, are set to star in a premiere concert production of ‘Jekyll & Hyde’.

Announced by Concertworks today, this first-ever Australian moment will tour to Melbourne on Friday, 25 October and in Sydney on Saturday, 2 November 2019, in a 25th Anniversary concert special.

’Jekyll & Hyde’ has yet to make its professional way to our sandy shores, having mesmerised all over the world. Based on the tale of ‘The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ by Robert Louis Stevenson, the musical of a similar shortened name is a tale of two men – one, a passionate and loving doctor and the other a terrifying madman. Trying to prove a chemical breakthrough, Jekyll accidentally unleashes his inner demons and introduces the world to his terrible alter-ego, Hyde.

In a very limited season, the struggle between this good and evil will come to life on stage, with Australian audiences now able to experience the many epic ballads of ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ and a truly thrilling score.

The musical was originally conceived for the stage by Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden, with music by Wildhorn, a book by Leslie Bricusse and lyrics from all three superstars. Receiving huge notoriety, Wildhorn is since multi-Grammy and Tony nominated, while Bricusse has seen success with double Oscar and Grammy award wins.

Warlow has shared his excitement regarding the event, in a statement, which said, “I am thrilled to have been invited to recreate the music and lyrics of Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse for this 25th-anniversary celebration of ‘Jekyll & Hyde’.  After re-imagining these iconic characters for the concept recording, I look forward to bringing Frank’s ‘Gothic Musical’ to the Australian stage in these gala concert performances.”

The creative team behind ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ includes Chris Parker (Director), Vanessa Scammell (Musical Director), Victoria Horne (Costume Design), Michael Waters (Sound Design) and Jasmine Rizk (Lighting Design).  While only Warlow and Rix have been announced, further casting lists will be released in July.

‘Jekyll & Hyde’ will perform at the Hamer Hall Arts Centre Melbourne and the Darling Harbour Theatre ICC Sydney, with the Melbourne and Sydney Symphony Orchestras respectively. Ticketek presales commence Tuesday, 11 June 2019.
