Local playwrights present new work at Javeenbah Theatre
Javeenbah Theatre is once again giving local writers, directors and performers a chance to showcase their work on a semi-professional stage.
In this new production entitled ‘One Act Wonders’, three world premieres will be presented in a night of entertainment, with each one-act play written by local playwrights.
Festival convenor and Javeenbah Theatre Artistic Director Kaela Gray spoke about the excitement of presenting new work written by local playwrights.
“It’s always exciting to see what our local talent crafts for the stage. There’s such a diversity in inspiration and style,” said Gray.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to keep showcasing these new works. From inception to execution, [Javeenbah Theatre] love engaging with our local talent!”
Among this collection of original works are three plays, each completely different from the other.
‘#BEAUTYWARS’ explores internet beauty influencing and the pressure pitfalls of online living, in a hilarious yet thought-provoking comedy.
New work ‘SEASCAPE’ invites audiences to take a post-COVID cruise and join an art class. However, passengers must keep in mind the golden rule – what happens on the cruise, stays on the cruise.
Finally, ‘CLASS OF ’85’ journies back to a simpler time. With their 30-year reunion looming, high school friends indulge in some reminiscence about the good, the bad.. and the unspoken.
Now in its third year, ‘One Act Wonders’ celebrates and supports local theatrical talent. Performances are from Friday, 15 July 2022.
