Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble (QSE) has today announced auditions for its 2024 Core Ensemble and Apprentice Program. Regardless of rank, experience, or profile, everyone collaborating with QSE can expect to work in an atmosphere of collaboration and openness, enriching the theatrical experience for all involved. The auditions will take place on the afternoons of Saturday, December 2nd, and Sunday, December 3rd, with callbacks scheduled for 6 – 11 pm on Monday, December 4th.

Applications Deadline and Submission

Applications must be complete and submitted electronically via email, with a deadline set for 5 pm on November 26th.

Audition Details

Initial auditions are slated for 2-6 pm on Saturday, December 2nd, and Sunday, December 3rd, at the University of Queensland (St Lucia). Auditions will be by appointment only, with 15-minute slots available. Aspiring actors are required to prepare two pieces from any of Shakespeare’s plays – one with a comic tone and one with a darker/heavier tone. Each piece should be between one and two minutes long, and speeches do not need to be age/gender appropriate.

Callbacks and Core Ensemble or Apprentice Program Consideration

Callbacks are set for 6-11 pm on Monday, December 4th, at the University of Queensland (St Lucia). The session will include voice, Shakespeare, group work, and improvisation. Candidates must be available for the entire callback to be considered for the Core Ensemble or Apprentice program.

2024 Apprentice Scholarship

QSE is offering a scholarship covering the program fee for one Apprentice in 2024. The scholarship aims to support applicants from traditionally excluded backgrounds, based on factors such as race/ethnicity, gender/sexual identity, disability, socio-economic status, or other considerations. Applicants wishing to be considered for the scholarship should highlight how they meet the criteria in their cover letter.

The scholarship, valued at $895, is intended to make QSE’s training accessible to those who might otherwise face barriers. Previous recipients of QSE scholarships have included Indigenous and justice-involved artists.
