A Year of Love with Queensland Theatre’s 2025 Season
Queensland Theatre has announced its highly anticipated 2025 season, featuring eight captivating productions that promise to inspire and entertain audiences across the state.
From beloved classics and Australian premieres to bold new works, the 2025 season aims to deliver an unforgettable theatrical experience.
This year’s program kicks off with a fresh, Bridgerton-inspired retelling of Pride & Prejudice, co-directed by Bridget Boyle and Daniel Evans. Staged at Toowoomba’s Empire Theatre from 13 February before transferring to QPAC’s Playhouse Theatre from 20 February to 9 March, this adaptation breathes new life into Jane Austen’s iconic romantic comedy.
Following Pride & Prejudice is the rollicking revival of Calamity Jane, set to turn Queensland Theatre’s Bille Brown Theatre into an immersive old-time saloon. Starring Naomi Price and directed by Richard Carroll, Calamity Jane runs from 22 March to 17 April and promises a whip-cracking night of laughter and music.
Next is David Williamson’s classic Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica, featuring Georgie Parker and Glenn Hazeldine in a story of unlikely attraction between two mismatched singletons. The production returns to Queensland Theatre’s stage after 15 years, playing at the Bille Brown Theatre from 28 May to 21 June.
Queensland Theatre’s commitment to showcasing new Australian stories is highlighted in the world premieres of Dear Son and Malacañang Made Us. Dear Son, from 28 June to 19 July, presents an emotional series of letters from 12 Indigenous men to their sons.
The Queensland premiere of Julia, Joanna Murray-Smith’s gripping re-imagining of Julia Gillard’s iconic 2012 misogyny speech, will take place at QPAC’s Playhouse Stage from 16 to 30 August, with Justine Clarke in the lead role.
Malacañang Made Us, performers from 18 October to 1 November, delves into the tumultuous history of the Philippines through the fall of Ferdinand Marcos, crafted by award-winning playwright Jordan Shea. Meanwhile, Back to Bilo, from 3 to 13 September, brings a deeply personal Australian story to life, exploring the plight of a Sri Lankan refugee family and their connection to the Queensland town of Biloela.
The season wraps up with Aaron Sorkin’s powerhouse courtroom drama A Few Good Men, running from 22 November to 7 December at QPAC’s Playhouse. This thrilling production, directed by Daniel Evans, features a stellar cast in a tale of justice, loyalty, and power.
Queensland Theatre’s 2025 season also includes the launch of its new Creative in Cairns initiative, bringing local stories to life in Far North Queensland, along with the continuation of its First Nations Development Program and Professional Development Program for Key Creatives.
The season celebrates Queensland’s vibrant arts community, with productions led by a roster of talented local actors, directors, and creatives.
